Ford Toolbox is a free-of-charge software that allows you to download, purchase, and install map updates to your navigation. Without the Ford Toolbox, you cannot download updates to your navigation. Download the Ford Toolbox here.

How can I obtain the latest version of Ford Toolbox?

Once a new version of Ford Toolbox is available, the program will automatically instruct you to update your current version. If you are uncomfortable using this automatic update method, you can choose to install the newest Ford Toolbox from https://ford.welcome.naviextras.com/ and download the installation program accompanying the latest version of the Ford Toolbox.

Can I install Ford Toolbox to Windows?

Yes, Ford Toolbox is compatible with up-to-date Microsoft Windows version 7, 8 and 10.

How can I create a Ford Toolbox account?

To download map updates, you need to create an account in Ford Toolbox application. When starting the Ford Toolbox, you are required to register, by providing your name, email address and password.

I forgot my login email. What can I do?

If you forgot the email address that you used for creating the Ford Toolbox account, you must register again. All the content that you have obtained previously will still be available to you

I forgot my password. What can I do?

If you forgot your password, use the Forgot Password link to recover your password.

How can I update my existing maps?

You can update your maps via Ford Toolbox application. For a quick reference, follow these 3 steps:

1. Download Ford Toolbox to your computer and launch it.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen to update your map
3. Insert your USB stick into the navigation device and update the system.

How can I check the availability of any map updates?

How often should I check for map updates?

Map updates are released once per year. It is recommended to subscribe for the free newsletter to get notified when a new update is available for your car.

Can I install available updates later?

Yes, all available updates can be installed at any point in time.

How long should it take to download the map data?

The download time varies based on the content being downloaded and your internet connection speed. It is recommended to use a broadband internet connection for downloading updates and new contents.

How do I resolve a connection error?

A connection error indicates that the Ford Toolbox is unable to reach the online update servers. Please ensure there is an active internet connection available and try to load the Ford Toolbox again.

Why VIN is required by the Ford Toolbox?

The Ford Toolbox requires VIN to identify what updates your head unit is eligible for. The software version is required to check if your head unit needs a software update. To use the latest maps, you require the latest software version.

Where can I find the VIN information?

Navigate to the General Settings of the head unit, then select the 'About SYNC' menu. The VIN and the software version will be listed there.

What do I need to do after I gave my vehicle identifiers?

Once your vehicle has been successfully identified, the Ford Toolbox will inform you about any available updates. It is recommended that you install all available updates to keep your Navigation System up to date. The latest software version is required to install map updates to your vehicle. If your head unit needs a software update, please find a local dealership where your vehicle can be updated to the latest software version.

Why is Ford Toolbox not detecting USB flash drive?

1. Make sure you have enough free space on the USB flash drive to which you wish to download map update. Minimum size: 4 GB
2. Check if the USB flash drive slot (reader) on your computer is working properly.

Why am I seeing ‘the computer has insufficient free space’?

Ford Toolbox needs to first download the selected products from an online server before copying the data to your USB drive. If you see this error, please ensure you have sufficient free space on your computer and restart the download and install process. The free space required varies according to map region.

Why does the download process fail?

The most possible cause is that the Map Updater cannot reach the update server due network issues. Please check your network connectivity.

I am using  Mac and the Ford Toolbox won’t start. What should I do?

If you have updated your OSX for Catalina, the Ford Toolbox will work only if you delete the previous version of the Ford Toolbox and download the latest one.

What do I need to pay attention at the first usage?

When using the Ford Toolbox on Catalina macOS for the first time, an additional permission is required to allow the application to access files on your data carrier/device. Please allow this, otherwise the Ford Toolbox won’t run anymore.

Can I change the application permission settings later?

You can set the application permissions anytime in System Preferences. Go to Security & Privacy > Files and Folders and tick the box next to Removable volumes under the Ford Toolbox application.
